For this project, the client came to us with a request for a series of color illustrations depicting the earliest stages of placental development to use in an upcoming lecture he would be giving. After some initial research, a series of eight images were created to depict this critical time in the early days of pregnancy.

The series was sucessfully used in the lecture, and it promted him to want to use them on a website. At our suggestion it was decided the series and growth would best be understood when viewed on a website as an animation. With some adjustments to the illustrations, and some finesse in Adobe AfterEffects, a dissolve animation was created which takes the viewer through the early placental development.

A dissolve animation is a simple yet effective tool to show progression; the spread of a disease, the growth of an organism, the enlargement of a tumor, the progression of a baby through the birth canal...the possibilities are endless.
